A Typical Day

Ok, I'm starting to get into a routine.

  • I made my bed and picked up family room.
  • Watered plants.
  • Walked dog 4.2 mile
  • Garbage and recycling
  • Transfer Station
  • Grocery Store for staples (Toilet paper!)
  • Drop off deposit bottles.
  • Library drop off.
  • Pick up dry cleaning.
  • Manny made me a burrito for lunch. Thanks buddy!
  • We watched some of Brazil vs. Chili in the World Cup. Lots of drama and a shoot out! (Did laundry at the same time...like those Tide Pods.)
  • I picked Weeds for 2 hours. I'm making progress.
  • Made chili out of leftover London broil. Not bad!
  • Watched end of Met's victory. 5-3
  • Manny wanted to watch a movie and decided on American Psycho. Weird....just wow...weird!

Golf and Baseball

After weed picking a small area in back of the house, my son and I decided to play a quick 9 holes of golf. The prize, winner pays for lunch at Taco Bell. I don't play much anymore, my last round was last summer, yet I managed a respectable 45! Respectable, but it easily could have been a 43 as I missed a couple of easy putts. We'll have to have a rematch in a couple of weeks.

I actually enjoyed the Taco Bell. Lefty loves the stuff. Interestingly his Mom can't tolerate it since she got sick eating it when pregnant. Go figure!

The evidence.

We went home and cleaned up for the evenings activity, a Hudson Valley Collegiate Baseball League Game in Danbury CT. I've been watching Lefty play ball since he was five, and he's always made me proud. Tonight was no exception. He went 2 for 3 with an RBI, a stolen base and a run scored. His team broke out for 15 runs and "mercy-ed" the other team!

Ugly swing, but single up the middle.

Running to first.

Stealing second.

Happy on third!

Today's Walk

I usually take a 4.2 mile walk down Lauer Road. Even though I live in a suburban area, we have pockets of open land. I feel like I'm in Vermont when I walk past Sprout Creek Farm. The new chicken coop really stands out!

Why a Summer Vacation Blog

I'm very fortunate to be a High School Teacher. Teaching adolescents can be very trying and Summer break allows me to recharge for another year in the classroom. Unfortunately, I feel I often "waste" some of this valuable time. This year I decided to document my 10 weeks.

After the usual good byes, I headed home yesterday. Job "one" was take the dog on our regular 4 mile walk. I intend to take a good walk as often as weather allows. Hopefully this will help in my goal of loosing 15-20 pounds.

After returning I started weeding one of our flower beds. I have a lot of yard work to accomplish this summer, but yard work is just the tip of my "Honey Do" list. I got a lot further than I thought, washed up and took my wife and daughter to the airport. They are doing a couple of weeks in Rome and Florence while my Son and I hold down the fort. Without any distractions I should get plenty done! Maybe if I keep busy I won't miss them as much. :(

I took the long way home through Harriman and Bear Mountain State Parks. The Seven Lakes Drive was absolutely beautiful as the sun started setting in the west. I listened to the Met's botch another game as I made my way home.....
